Granuloma inguinale in Southern Rhodesia and its treatment with antibiotics.

چکیده
RECENTLY the writer has had the good fortune to make a prolonged survey of venereal diseases in Southern Rhodesia. During this undertaking some 17 cases of granuloma inguinale were observed during six months 'in widely scattered parts of the country from Concession, north of Salisbury, to Belingwe, south east of Bulawayo. 10 were males and 6 were females. It was estimated that to find these, some 1,500 venereal diseases patients were examined in over 50 institutions and, as many had already been in-patients for long periods far in excess of those of patients with the more ordinary venereal conditions, that the incidence was probably of the order of 0'25 per cent or less of venereal diseases patients seen. In the Report (Willcox, 1949) reference was made to 16 cases: 1 additional case was seen after the Report had been written. Some of these patients it was found possible personally to treat. Others were prescribed for and the results of treatment obtained from the medical officers concerned by post; others again were merely seen en piaL~sant. Those cared for personally, and some of those seen only periodically, were given streptomyCin, aureomycin or chloromycetin. Although one is well aware of the deficiencies of this paper, both as regards pathological control and followup, it is felt, all the same, that the experience is worth recording.

Trovofloxacin for the treatment of chronic granuloma inguinale.
Recently, the quinolone class of antibiotics has been used successfully in a few patients with granuloma inguinale. We report a case of chronic granuloma inguinale, failing repeated antibiotic treatment over 15 years, which responded to a 2 month course of trovofloxacin. A 33 year old white woman developed granuloma inguinale involving the vulva, left labia, and vaginal canal since about 1982. ...

Physicians have long searched for an effective therapeutic agent against the unusually resistant diseases, granuloma inguinale and lymphogranuloma yenereum. Chancroid responds readily to antiseptic measures and the sulfonamide compounds. Syphilis is controlled by penicillin or arsenicals and bismuth compounds. Gonorrhea responds to the sulfonamides, penicillin or streptomycin. The discovery tha...

Granuloma inguinale, indigenous to the South of the United States, was at one time an important problem in the area accessible to the Medical College of Georgia. The wealth of clinical material afforded ample opportunity for intensive observation of the nature of this disease for 15 years. Since the introduction of the newer antibiotics, its incidence has declined so far that our greatest probl...

Primary endometrial and endocervical granuloma inguinale (donovanosis) was diagnosed in an 18-year-old Melanesian woman in Papua New Guinea. Granulomatous involvement of the parametrium, salpinges, ovaries, and ureters was associated with ureteric obstruction and bilateral hydronephrosis. Granuloma inguinale of the cervix, labia majora, and anus developed after diagnostic endometrial curettage....
متن کاملThe diagnosis and treatment of donovanosis (granuloma inguinale).
Donovanosis is a predominantly tropical cause of genital ulcer occurring chiefly in small endemic foci in all continents except Europe. Diagnosis requires the careful collection, staining and examination of smears or biopsies of characteristic genital and, occasionally, extragenital lesions for demonstration of the pathognomonic Donovan bodies (Calymmatobacterium granulomatis) within histiocyte...
